Optical Fiber Network Inaugurated between Logar, Paktia, Khost and Paktika

On November 6, 2010, Eng. A. Sangin, Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, a number of MCIT delegates, including Eng Baryalai Hassam Deputy Minister Technical, and other senior officials visited Logar province, for the official ceremony to inaugurate the Optical Fiber Network link between Logar, Paktia, Khost and Paktika.

Upon the senior government delegation’s arrival in Logar Province, they were warmly welcomed by the Governor of the Logar Province, and Members of the Provincial Council. At the beginning of the ceremony, after the recitation of selected verses from the Holy Quran, General Atiqullah Lodin, Governor of Logar Province, in a welcoming speech thanked H.E. Amirzai Sangin for his consistent support and efforts in providing ICT services in Afghanistan, and in particular in the Logar Province. He iterated that today the development of the ICT sector in Afghanistan is highly visible and more development is in progress, and this is all thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Communications and IT of the I.R. of Afghanistan.
Afterwards, H.E. Eng. Amirzai Sangin said he was happy to travel to the beautiful Logar Province, and that Logar was now connected to the Optical Fiber Network. He also stated that this project has contracted with Shahid Ghandi Communication Cable Co, and aims to connect four provinces (Logar, Paktia, Khost and Paktika) with the OFC.  By the end of this project, in addition to the abovementioned Provinces, the six provincial districts of Char-Asia, Mohammad-hagha, Zermat, Matan, Orgun and Andar will also be connected to the Optical Fiber Network (OFC).
The project cost 12,087,000 USD, to be paid by the MCIT’s core budget, and will be completed within 18 months. H.E the Minister further expressed his happiness that 85% of people of Afghanistan come under coverage of communication services and that in the near future the Azra and Kharwar districts will also receive telecommunication services.
Finally, the Shahid Ghandi Communication Cable Co stated its commitment to quality and completion of the project in the required time.
