Members of Transportation and Telecommunication Commission of the Afghan Parliament Visited the MCIT
A delegation of the Afghan parliament (Wolasi Jirga) visited the MCIT to discuss the latest development and future plans in the telecom and IT sector with official at the MCIT. The meeting was attended by the minister, his deputies and all the senior managers including the board members of the Afghan Telecommunication regulatory Authority (ATRA) and Afghan Telecom.
Minister Sangin has updated the delegation about the major achievement of the MCIT during the last decade and has outlined his vision and programs for the next three years as follows:
- To deliver the Telecom and IT services to rural area through country
- To supply high speed internet for the people in Afghanistan
- To provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on the successful implementation of Identity Card (ID) project
- To extend the fiber optics network to the areas which are not covered yet
- To build and place the first telecommunication satellite in the orbit
- To replace the existing analog Television with digital television (TV) in the country and tight the regulations for the TV companies operating in the country
- To enhance the capacity of the Afghan government by intruding the concept of e government and encourage all the ministries to integrate ICT within their main work.
The parliamentary delegation raised some concerns on specific prices by the private telecom companies operating in the country, however, they were assured that their prices will be closely monitored by colleagues at ATRA and will tighten the regulation if required.
At the end of the meeting, the MCIT minister and his team were congratulated by their excellent work during the last decade by the delegation from the parliament.
