Ministry of Communications & IT Celebrates World Post Day

World Post Day is celebrated on October 9. This day is the date when the first postal union, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), was started in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969.

Post is one of the oldest ways of communicating. The postal service is part of people’s daily life all over the world. People send or receive letters and parcels through the postal service.

Theme for 2013: The Post, delivering for people and businesses daily.

On this occasion a celebration ceremony was held in Information Communications Technology Institute (ICTI) – MCIT.

H. E. Eng. Baryalay Hassam deputy minister Technical of MCIT attended the event along with leadership and staff of MCIT, representative of media. At the beginning Eng. Baryalay Hassam explained the important and vital role of the Postal services, stating the achievements of Ministry of Communications and IT in Postal services and historical values of Post service in Afghanistan, Hassam said that Afghanistan is among the 102 countries, which provide postal services around the world. Further he said that all provinces and districts of our country enjoy postal services, five private companies (T.N.T, D.H.L, FEDEX, MOVE ON LOGESTIC) offer their Postal services as well. Also he mentioned that Afghanistan has its own Postal Code recognized from international community. He also stressed that MCIT strongly intends to get advantages of modern and advanced technology for delivering better postal services in all over the country.
