The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is working together with the Ministry of Education and the Afghanistan Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ATRA) to provide modern education facilities, to equip the country's schools with information technology and connect them to the Fiber Optic Network.

In the first phase of this process, the Ministry of Communications has connected 115 schools in nine provinces to fiber optics and has rigged 31 schools with information technology, the equipping process of other schools are going on.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has also surveyed 290 schools and plans to survey 1,200 other schools, and then connect to the fiber optic network.

In addition, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is planning to use two transponder of Afghan Satellite (AfghanSat) to connect distant schools where their connection facilities are not available through the fiber optic network.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in partnership with ATRA, has designed a systematic plan to equip Afghanistan's schools with computer labs and connect them to the Internet.

The plan has been arranged in three stages, the first stage was implemented in 1397, and the second and third stages will be implemented this year.
