Brief introduction of NIXA infrastructure (Internet exchange point center); Goals and achievements
The Internet Exchange Point Center of Afghanistan (NIXA) is the physical infrastructure through which the Internet traffic of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) is exchanged.
The Internet Exchange Point Center (NIXA) was established to build an internal gateway for Afghanistan's internal Internet traffic, privacy of information, improving the quality of the Internet and reducing bandwidth consumption.
By the establishment of the center, customer's information will be safe and secure, internal traffic speed will increase, and the leak of Information abroad will be prevented.
Out of 63 Internet Service Providers, 29 companies having Internet service licenses, are connected to this infrastructure So far.
Recently, six Internet service companies such as Afghan Wireless Telecommunication, Io-Global, Ankabut, Network Zone, Cyber Telecom, and Vital Telecom have connected to the NIXA infrastructure.
In addition, two new server caches, DNS Root Server having more than 400 Domain Names in 112 countries are under internet coverage.
Google Cache, Google Localization, Facebook Localization, the exchange of information and data available at the National Data Center, Upgrading the link of the telecommunications companies from 100Mb to 1Gig is one of the recent achievements of this center.
The current state of the project:
Due to the failure of the bidding process, the purchase of equipment required for the Internet Exchange Center (NIXA) project has been re-tendered.
The Internet Exchange Center project has a budget of about 15 million Afghanis in the fiscal year 1400, which has been approved by the Ministry of Finance and has spent about 9 million Afghanis so far.
Future plans and challenges:
Upgrading existing systems and installing new systems to improve service capacity, establishing IXP in four zones of the country to make it easier for telecommunications companies, and connecting all Internet service providers to this infrastructure are among the plans on hand.
Simultaneously, the slowness of the procurement and technical processes sometimes causes challenges in the progress of this project.
