Afghan Women's Access to Mobile Technology
According a survey done by a USAID project called “Mobile Access Technology over the last year; 80% of women in Afghanistan have direct or indirect access to mobile services.
The result of this survey was presented in conference held on May 22 2013 on “Afghan Women’s Access to Mobile Technology”, which was conducted by Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and Ministry of Women Affairs.
The conference was attended by H.E. Amirzai Sangin minister of MCIT, Husun Bano Gazanfar minister of women affair, Amb.Hilda M. Arellano Coordinating Director for Development Economic and Economic Affairs, representative of parliament a large number of active and hardworking women.
The result of research shows that 80% of women in Afghanistan have access to mobile technology, said Ms. Nelofer Sakhi.
48% women out of 80% are those who have bought their own phones, and 32% of them are the women that jointly with members of family solve their communication problems. She added that these women have access to this technology for two years. She mentioned that the research was conducted in five provinces and in each province 400 women were asked the same question.
Then Husun Bano Ghazanfar expressed her satisfaction for holding such a conference and survey. She said that one of the major achievements of the government is development in the field of Communication and IT. The honor of which belongs to MCIT and minister himself.
Then H.E. Amirzai Sangin said that it is the matter of pleasure that results and percentage of the survey agree with what we have said. Mr. Sangin referred to some number of problems what prevent the women to have access to mobile services and technology. He said that economic - social attitude and deprivation of personal live play the main obstacle role. Further he said we will set a particular number to be able record women’s complain for disturbing calls. Also he highlighted that: the project of Fiber Optic will soon be completed and we endeavor to decrease more the prices of internet services. Mobile technology empowers women to take control of their lives. So we are trying to cover all areas of the country with IT.
