National Conference Holds for Afghanistan’s Cyber Security
The Ministry of Communications & Information Technology in partnership with the US Department of Commerce hosted the first workshop on the National Cybersecurity Strategy of Afghanistan. The workshop was held from 1-4 September at the Information and Communication Technology Institute (ICTI), Kabul. Invitations were sent to the Ministries and some Academic institutions because all have a voice and interest in the development of this important and needed strategy.
On 1st September H.E. Amir Zai Sangin Minister MCIT opened the workshop and underscored the vital importance of this strategy as a first step to improving cybersecurity across the government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Followed by H.E. Minister’s opening remarks, Mr Aimal Marjan Director General ICT and Mr Zmarialai Wafa Acting Director Information Security delivered their speech. At the end Over the four days the participants worked under the support of Information Security Directorate and the US Dept of Commerce to self assess their capabilities and to establish the draft document. The good work of the participants was recognized by H.E. Baryalai Hassam Deputy minister Technical and Mr Aimal Marjan on the last day of the workshop. Efforts to publish a final strategy document will continue through weekly meetings facilitated by the Information Security Directorate. The first draft of the strategy is expected to be presented to the ICT council by the end of December 2012.
