MCIT Inaugurates North Eastern Route –OFC Project

  His Excellency Amirzai Sangin - Minister of Communications & IT officially inaugurated the OFC (North-Eastern Route) Project to connect (Kundoz, Takhar and Badakhshan) provinces of Afghanistan in a ceremony which held in kundoz province on Tuesday 4/16/2013.

His Excellency Amirzai Sangin said” I am very happy to participate in opening ceremony of OFC project, this project is a part of extension of Telecommunication services in the country which brings many facilities to the people  and has special discount  in the price of Telecommunication parts, ensure the access of our young  people to communicate through Fiber Optic Technology”.

Amirzai Sangin added: approximately $60 million US dollar has been invested in OFC project over the country which covered Major area of the country through OFC project yet, current project will link three North Eastern province (Kundoz, Takhar and Badakhshan) and districts which comes along the way of these provinces.

According to Minster Sangin all of above parts which mentioned comes in the area of Fiber Optical Ring will link through switch located in kundoz province.

 latter His Excellency Mohammad Anwar Jagdalak Governor of Kunduz Province, parliament members and people of Kundoz showed their interest and said this is critical project and we all here to support our Government and to help MCIT for implementation of OFC project, at the end they thanked Minister Amirzai Sangin and  team for  hard working for brings facilities in the life of Afghan People.

Minister Sangin mentioned the value of this contract  and details which connects the above area as follows:

  1. The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan received a Grant of 50.00 Million USD from the International Development Association (IDA-The World Bank) in June, 2011 for Afghanistan’s ICT Sector Development Project to be implemented by MCIT. The Project Period as given in the Finance Agreement between the World Bank and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is five (05 years) with effect from 14th June, 2011.
  1. In the Procurement Plan of the ICT Sector Development Project, an amount of 27.00 Million USD has been allotted to Expanding of Connectivity, which is planned to be spent to connect Bamiyan, Daikundi, Chagcharan, Takhar and Badakshan Provinces(including 13 Districts on both the Routes) by Optical Fiber Cables(OFC) with the existing OFC Ring of the Country.
  1. On the North Eastern Route of Afghanistan, Optical Fibre Cables & Systems will be commissioned to connect Takhar, Badakshan and 03 Districts on the North Eastern Route of the Country.Three Districts to be connected on this North Eastern Route are: ---Khanabad---;---Kalafgan---;---Kishm---.

All these Nodes will be connected with the existing Fibre Ring of the Country at Kunduz's Switch of MCIT.

4)   For Commissioning of these 05 Nodes on the North Eastern Route, Installation &  

      Commissioning of the Optical Fibre Cables will be done by Rustam Haidari Construction  

      Company (called RHCC) of Afghanistan. Optical Systems and other Technical Equipment for  

      These 05 Nodes will be provided by ZTE Corporation Ltd., China.

Voice and Data services will be provided at all the Provincial Capitals and Districts mentioned above which will allow the Customers to make Voice calls and also use broadband Internet Services.
