MCIT/ Afghan Telecom inaugurates GSM & 3G Services

Afghan Telecom inaugurates GSM & 3G services in a gathering participating H.E. Hamid Karzai, president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Amirzai Sangin, Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) ,cabinet members, parliament members and ICT experts being held on fiscal year 1392/11/15 (Tuesday)  at Serena Hotel, Kabul.

In beginning of the event, H.E. Amirzai Sangin, welcomed the honorable guests especially H.E. Hamid Karzai, president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. He pointed to the latest major achievements of ICT sector, which are acquired in the last decade and provided valuable information to the audience. He added that the major achievements of Afghanistan in ICT sector are incredible as compared to the neighboring countries.

Regarding Afghan Telecom, H.E. Sangin said: Afghan Telecom is a government-based Telecom company, which was established in 1384. The Afghan Telecom is an innovation of Afghans, administrated by Afghans and was established with Afghans’ investment; for the time being Afghan Telecom is self-reliance and is able to compete other private GSM companies.

H.E. Sangin said: Afghan Telecom has been providing better telecom services since establishment through Fiber Optic Cable (OFC), DSL and Digital. The company has invested $65 million in GSM and 3G. The services will be started at Kabul from today and will expand to further 10 provinces in the current week; as soon as possible the services will cover the whole country. The                           company plans to invest more $100 million for expansion and bitterness of the services                                                                                       .

After, H.E. Hamid Karzai, president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan said: “It makes me happy that Afghan Telecom officially inaugurates GSM and 3G services; it is a pleasure that an Afghan Telecom government company establishes telecom services; He added that each step towards development through Afghans are highly appreciated, we proud of MCIT’s innovations and new initiatives. He also pointed to the e-governance via modern technologies, which caused speed, accuracy and reliability in government activities. He also stressed on data security

Besides, GSM and 3G services, Afghan Telecom also launched a new SIM-Card with the name of SALAM. In result, we will have better quality of sound, picture and will cause reduction in communications and internet services. Using SALAM, cost of communications will be charged for seconds-based, which each second cost will be 0.04 Afs. Furthermore it will cause reduction in internet prices as mentioned below:

1GB:  250 Afs

 3GB: 600 Afs 

 5GB: 900 Afs
