China Government pledges cooperation in the implementation of the Wakhan Corridor Project

Shahzad Aryobee, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, on the sideline of the 5th World Internet Conference held in China, met with Mr. Chen Zhao Xiong China’s Minister of Industry and Communications Technology and discussed the expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly fiber optics connection through the Wakhan Corridor.
As the Wakhan Corridor Project Survey is completed and there is no any obstacle to the way of the implementation of this project, therefore,In order to begin the practical work of this project Minister Shahzad Aryobee officially offered the proposal of 50 million dollars to his Chinese counterpart.
Mr. Chen Zhao Xiong pledged saying that this project would be in his priorities and will soon be shared with the relevant authorities and the Afghan government will be notified of its finance approval.
By utilizing this project, Afghanistan will play a central role in the transit of information between China, South Asia, Europe and Africa, and besides million dollars of revenues, Afghanistan will benefit from fast and cheap internet as well.
