Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology attends the Parliament’s Commission on Complaints

Mohammad Fahim Hashimi acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology attended the Parliament’s Commission on Complaints and answered the questions raised by the members of the commission.

Issues raised during the meeting were the functioning of telecommunications networks in different provinces, the disconnection of telecommunication antennas, problems with internet speeds and some other miscellaneous issues.

In response to the concerns and issues raised by lawyers, minister of Communications and information technology said that most of these concerns and questions are related to the Afghanistan Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ATRA).

"He explained that as an independent institution the ATRA has been in charge of all telecommunications networks for three years and in these cases the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has no responsibility,".

Hashimi said that the inactivity of the telecommunications networks on Election Day, especially in the northern provinces of the country was followed by himself moment by moment and that many of these problems had been resolved.

"It is up to ATRA to monitor the performance of telecommunications companies, but the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has done its best to prevent problems and cooperates with ATRA in critical times," he said.

In connection with Salam telecommunications network as a state-owned company he said that the network continued to operate in the most difficult conditions and has not stopped operating despite repeated Taliban threats.

Hashimi expressed that we lost some of our colleagues from the company of Salam, and we continue to operate despite continued threats.

Chairman and members of Wolesi Jirga Complaints Commission thanked Hashemi for his appearing at the meeting.
