The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Proposal to Establish a System for Registering Cell Phones Approve The High Economic Council meeting chaired by Professor Mohammad Homayun Qayoumi the Acting Minister of Finance and Infrastructure Senior Advisor to the President held on Tuesday, 23 October 2018. The meeting was attended by the members of the High Economic Council. The proposal of the MCIT on the establishment of a system to register cell phones was approved. The establishment of the new cell phone registration system helps to step up the physical safety, protecting the privacy of the cell phone users, preventing crimes and run off from the government taxes.
Mr. Sahzad Aryoubi, the Minister of the Communications and Information Technology said, “The problem of the stealing of cell phones on the streets which caused injuries for the cell phone users in some cases is in our priority, therefore, the MCIT developed a plan that helps to stop the thieves to steal the users’ cell phones on the streets, the unauthorized use of personal information from individuals, and stops the illegally entry of communications and IT products into the market.”
The new system has been designed in way that inactivates the stolen cell phone, which cannot be used anywhere inside or outside of the country.
Mr. Aryoubi added that the system tracks the criminals and leads to the arrestment of them. Addition to this, the system has been built up to identify the poor quality products and products illegally enter into markets and SIM boxes that have not been registered with MCIT and operate illegally.
He said that by putting this system into practice, there will be a considerable increase in the income of the government.
In this way, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology assure people that MCIT will use all its possibilities to establish this system to secure the lives and property of subscribers of telecommunication services.
