He gave example of Singapore, a small country with virtually no natural resources and said “Singapore has a population of around five million and no major natural resources but yet statistics show that this country’s per capita income in the year 2009 was close to US$34,000 while Afghanistan with natural resources estimated to be worth around three trillion dollars, had a per capita of around US$400 which is 100 times less than that of Singapore.
H.E. Sangin gave detailed information about the progress made in Afghanistan in the field of Communications and IT in the short span of eight years and talked about various aspects of this speedy progress in the country, and the impacts it has made on the living standard, job opportunity and the facilities extended to them. Afterwards Dr. Ghulam Farooq Wardak Minister of Education, thanking the leadership of the MCIT for the valuable steps taken towards expansion of Communication and IT services in the country, said ICT has changed the world into a village, and nowadays physical distances cannot and do not pose a major problem as it used pose in the past. He added that now using Internet, with the click of a single button one can get access to the world libraries, submit applications to universities, apply for jobs, make reservations, and carry out thousands and thousands of other operations which could not be even imagined a few decades ago.
Dr. Wardak, while stressing on the important role of the young generation for the advancement of the country, highly appreciated the MCIT’s initiative towards connecting the ICTI campus online and called it a very vital project. He urged the students of the Institute to make efficient and sensible use of the facility provided to them.
