MCIT-Holds DEWAE Award Ceremony
Minister of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) H. E. Amirzai Sangin awarded 11 competitors who contested under the DEWAE (Innovation Beacon) program of MCIT in an official ceremony, which was held on Tuesday June 3, 2014 at Kabul Star Hotel. The event was participated by the leadership body of MCIT, deputy (scientific) of Ministry of Higher Education, chairman of Afghanistan Information Management Services (AIMS), professors from Public and private Universities in Kabul, and Mass media.
At the beginning Minister Amirzai Sangin welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of the program and said: this is an effective program to promote innovation and foster knowledge of information technology and mobile technology and is significant initiative towards the development of innovation culture in Afghanistan.
The program of Dawae gives us the opportunity reinforcement of talents and encourage people, particularly the youth via which we will be able to export information technology. He stressed: accelerating development of ICT sector in the country, MCIT strongly support this valuable program in the future as well.
After that deputy (IT) Minister of MCIT Mr. Aimal Marjan briefed the objectives of the DEWAE program and said: MCIT tries to build appropriate skills in government and other organizations to manage information management systems. He added: that the overall objective of the DEWAE program is to develop an ICT Innovation culture in the country that will produce innovations in mobile and related technologies and their use in the government in order to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness.
After that deputy (Scientific) Minster of Higher Education Mr. Mohammad Usman Babury and chairman of AIMS Mr. Mohammad Najib Azizi spoke about the importance and values of the DAWAE program respectively.
Mr. Najib Azizi said: that The Afghanistan Information Management Services (AIMS) is the implementing partner of the DEWAE Program in order to achieve the mandates of the MCIT.
This program will run for a period of two years and will be completed by June 2016. The winners of the competition will be awarded monetary prizes ranging from 2000 USD up to 80000 USD. Through this program a total of 187 Awards will be given and the total monetary value of the Awards is 5 million USD funded by the World Bank.
Through this event DEWAE announced 9 challenges and 40 proposals from Afghan innovators to participate in the first round of the competitions and 11 out of them were recognized the winner of contest.
