All Afghan Universities Connects to the World Universities through Fiber Optic Cable   

 To mark this occasion a press conference held at MCIT with the participation of H.E. Eng.Amirzai Sangin minister of Communication & IT, H.E.Dr.Ubaildulla Ubaid minister of Higher Education, MCIT leadership

And media representative.

The ministries of telecommunication & IT and Higher Education sign a memorandum of understanding entitled “role of telecom and information technology in higher education”. Based on the agreement MCIT will provide financial and technical assistance to ministry of higher education to connect all   universities of Afghanistan and then connecting them to with world Universities through Fiber Optic cable using TDF Fund. As the result of this cooperation, universities of the country will be connected to national research and education network, and the students and teachers will have the opportunity to have access to global and other research resources.

At this meeting H.E. Eng. Amirzai Sangin Minister of MCIT mentioning the role of telecom and IT in social and economic development of the country, further he said” based on this initiative educational institutions of the country will enjoy the benefits of high quality and rapid internet services in their research and scientific affairs.

After that H.E. Obaidullah Obaid minister of Higher Education appreciated the initiative of MCIT and said that this cooperation will provide valuable facilities to universities, teachers and students.

  In order to achieve the purposes of the agreement a 3million dollar budget has been set for the first phase of the cooperation in 1391. The first phase will be practiced in educational institutions as: Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Education and Kabul Medical University.  

It is noteworthy that according to law, the development telecom services fund is run by ATRA. The fund is supported of 2, 5 % revenue of telecommunication companies. And it is spent for delivering telecommunication services to the remote areas of the country and promotion of information technology to those areas.
