Celebration of Safer Internet Day

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology celebrated Safer Internet Day with the presence of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Technation Company and mass media representatives on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.

The aim of the Safer Internet International Day is to provide Secure Internet atmosphere suitable for the women and children and awareness about the effective use of the Internet.

In the meeting Shahzad Aryobee Minister of Communications and Information Technology said that there is a need for more awareness-raising, especially for children and women, for the safe use of Internet services.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Communications discussed the challenges and vulnerabilities of Internet users, especially women and children, in order to identify the ways of resolving them.

The Minister of Communications and IT also said that the Ministry of Communications will equip schools with computers throughout the country. He added that using these facilities for safer internet requires more awareness raising.

Minister Aryobee added that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has taken necessary steps for Security Afghanistan's Internet Information.

He mentioned that the Electronic Governance Law has been completed and will be ratified soon, the cybercrime Code has been approved, and will soon other provisions and procedures for secure information be arranged.

The Minister of Communications also said that In addition, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has implemented the NIXA program in 1397 and created a research cybercrime lab, which is currently in use, swift response technical teams are working 24/7 for more secure internet information.

Currently, 9.7 million people have access to Internet services nationwide, which represents nearly two million increase compared to one and a half years ago.

At the conference, Omar Mansour Ansari director of Technetion Company briefed the audience about the Cyber Identity Theft, Sextortion, Cyberstalking, and Cyber Bullying. He added that in the current world of Internet, there are obstacles for children and women that the  public and private sector agencies should do necessary to tackle the barriers.

Also, the acting minister of the Ministry of Education and deputy minister of Women's Affairs at the meeting spoke about their role in the awareness-raising for the safer Internet and pledged to work together with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for solving the challenges.
