The NIXA is one of the projects of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), which was launched in 2018 and its development phases are ongoing.

Since its inauguration, the infrastructure has been connected to more than 24 Internet service providers and all telecommunication companies, and delivers its services.

The Afghanistan Internet Exchange Center (NIXA) is the physical infrastructure through which Internet traffic and Data are exchanged by local Internet Service Providers.

Afghanistan Internet Exchange Center (NIXA) has been established for the following activities:

  1. 1. Protecting the confidentiality of information.
  2. 2. Reduction in bandwidth consumption.
  3. 3. Increasing the speed and quality of the Internet.
  4. 4. Creating a gateway for internal internet traffic.

One of the goals of the NIXA is to create an internal gateway for Afghanistan's internal Internet traffic, which is very effective for information security and confidentiality, it also plays a major role in speeding up the country's internal traffic.

Prior to the establishment of the Center, Internet service providers purchased the Internet from various countries.

For this reason, routing was done from the gateways of the foreign countries, and all the traffic was exchanged in the gateways abroad. The Internet overtook other countries that led to insecurity of data, and low internet speed with high cost. At the same time, the loss of package was possible due to the long journey. On the other hand, large Internet service providers have paid large sums of money for 1MB Internet.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), with the establishment of the Internet Exchange Center (NIXA), has the ability to securely provide internal Internet traffic to Internet and telecommunication service providers (ISPs) at optimal speeds.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology covers the following extents:

  1. Access to Data stored inside Afghanistan.
  2. Localization of Facebook, Google and DNS Root Server that exchanges more than 6 Gig of traffic per second.

Connecting the mentioned servers with the Internet exchange center causes 80% of information traffic to be exchanged inside the country and increases the information protection of Internet users.

Therefore, NIXA is one of the most essential and key infrastructures for the exchange of information between users of and Internet service provider Companies, which on the one hand increases the speed, security and at the same time reduces the price of Internet and data exchange.
